The STEM SAFARI program, initiated by the Ladies of New Millennium Foundation in Dar es Salaam, is designed to provide practical exposure for STEM students in Tanzania. The program aims to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world career applications.

Initiated by the Ladies of New Millennium Foundation, STEM SAFARI addresses a critical gap in Tanzania's education system: while the nation champions STEM subjects, many students particularly girls lack any opportunity to see how their studies apply to large-scale industrial and technical operations in the real world.
A student can memorise the principles of thermodynamics without ever seeing a turbine. She can study chemistry without ever setting foot in an industrial laboratory. STEM Safari closes that gap providing immersive, guided visits to Tanzania's most significant technical institutions.
This program aligns with Tanzania's national development priorities, including industrialisation, energy transformation, and gender inclusion in leadership translating policy ambitions into lived experience for Tanzania's students.
Beyond the visits themselves, STEM Safari builds lasting connections between students and STEM professionals — creating mentor relationships, career awareness, and a pipeline of inspired young Tanzanians ready to enter the fields that will shape their country's future.

Inspire & Retain Students in STEM
Encouraging students, especially girls to persist in science subjects by showing them vividly where their learning can lead. Seeing is believing, and belief changes trajectories.

Strategic National Awareness
Building students' knowledge of Tanzania's vital sectors mining, energy, infrastructure, and regulation, so they understand the national investments being made and their role within them.

Mentorship & Role Modelling
Connecting students with industry professionals — with a deliberate emphasis on women in technical leadership roles — to bridge the critical gap between education and employment.

Designed for Tanzania's future leaders
STEM Safari serves students aged 17–22 years, spanning Form IV through to early university at a pivotal moment in their academic and career decision-making. These are the years when students choose their paths, and when the right exposure can change everything.
To promote genuine gender inclusion in technical fields, every STEM Safari cohort is intentionally composed to centre girls' participation not as an afterthought, but as a foundational design principle of the program.
By ensuring girls comprise the majority of every cohort, STEM Safari challenges the assumptions that keep technical fields male-dominated and creates the critical mass needed for peer inspiration, community belonging, and sustained momentum.

Guided visits to operations, laboratories, and command centres at Tanzania's leading technical agencies — bringing textbook concepts to life in real operating environments.

Direct, unscripted engagement with scientists, engineers, and technical professionals sharing their career pathways, the challenges they faced, and advice for students beginning their journeys.

Interactive Demos
First-hand encounters with advanced technology — from GIS mapping and seismic equipment to live energy grids. Learning through direct interaction with the tools of the trade.

Inspiration Circles
Small-group mentoring sessions specifically designed to connect students — with a focus on girls — with women in technical leadership roles. Intimate, personal conversations that shift what feels possible.

In 2024, STEM Safari launched its pilot phase in partnership with Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation — establishing proof of concept for a program with transformative, nation-wide scaling potential.
Students visited active energy infrastructure that most Tanzanians have never seen — moving through facilities alongside the engineers and technicians who operate them daily. At each site, women professionals served as guides, mentors, and living proof of what is possible.
